Airdrie celebrates Economic Development Week

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Airdrie City Council proclaimed May 6 – 11, 2019 as Economic Development Week in Airdrie. Airdrie joins cities across North America to increase awareness of the positive work economic developers do to enhance the local economy.

“This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the ever evolving profession of Economic Development. It’s a time to celebrate all the entrepreneurs who start new businesses, all the business owners who employ our residents and those who continue to invest in our community,” says Kent Rupert, Team Leader Economic Development.

“Along with our partners, we are very proud of the programs and services we continue to offer local businesses to help them succeed in economic good times and during downturns. With Airdrie’s Economic Strategy, which launched in 2018, we will continue to pave the way for the local business community to grow and prosper and ensure Airdrie becomes known as the place to be.”

Now in its fourth year, International Economic Development Week was created to recognize the unique role economic development has in creating vibrant communities with strong economies. More than 250 communities participated in the 2018 campaign across the U.S. and Canada. In the past, cities, counties and provinces have recognized the week through official proclamations, local community events, and informational campaigns online and through social media.

2019 will be the first year the City of Airdrie will be participating in International Economic Development Week. The recent launch and ongoing implementation of Airdrie’s Economic Strategy further demonstrates the importance of economic development in our community.

On Wed., May 8, Airdrie City Hall will be lit up with the colours from Airdrie’s Economic Strategy in honour of Economic Development Week.
