October 31, 2019/ For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 4:40 p.m., the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of structure fire in the #400 Block of Sagewood Drive SW.
On arrival, fire crews found smoke conditions on all levels of a two story residential home.
The home’s smoke alarms had activated which alerted five residents to safely evacuate to the street prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Upon entry into the home, firefighters determined the fire was burning in the laundry room area of the basement. They quickly attacked and extinguished the blaze while initiating ventilation efforts to remove heated gases and smoke from the structure.
One adult patient was assessed on scene by AHS for minor smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries to report. Airdrie and District Victim Assistance (ADVAS) members attended the scene to assist the displaced residents.
Due to fire damage in the basement and significant smoke damage on all levels, residents remain temporarily displaced from their home.
The Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB) remains on scene conducting their investigation to determine probable cause and preliminary damage estimates.
Four pieces of fire apparatus and fourteen firefighters were on scene.
