November 13, 2019/ Structure Fire/ AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Wed., Nov. 13, 2019 at 2:37 p.m. the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to the report of flooding in the basement of a home located on Prairie Springs Bay SW.

When crews arrived they determined that an earlier fire had occurred in a stack of clothing in the lower level laundry room area. The blaze extended upward where the heat ruptured a plastic, domestic water line located in the ceiling. The broken water line then acted as a sprinkler and doused and extinguished the fire.

Firefighters shut off water to the home to limit any further damage. They used their thermal imaging camera to confirm that the fire was completely extinguished and that it had not extended to any other rooms.

Cause of the fire remains undetermined. Damage estimates are $10,000 to room and contents. There were no injuries to report. Five pieces of apparatus and fourteen firefighters were on scene.
