Vehicle Fire/ AFD Response Details

Dec. 27, 2019/ For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Friday, Dec. 27 at 2:46 PM the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a vehicle fire located in the #700 Block of Willowbrook Road NW.

On arrival, fire crews found a vehicle on fire on an exterior parking pad at a multi-family, multi-story townhouse complex.

Prior to the arrival of firefighters, a resident living in the area had witnessed the fire and called 911. He attempted to extinguish the blaze with portable fire extinguishers and buckets of water.

Firefighters removed the hood of the vehicle to directly attack the fire and ensure that it was fully extinguished.

The garage door was then opened and the Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) was used to check for remaining hot spots and possible fire extension. Light smoke found in the interior of the garage was quickly ventilated.

Firefighters also completed air quality testing on the interior of the home.

The Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB) continues their investigation to determine cause and damage estimates.

There were no injuries to report.

Five pieces of apparatus and fourteen firefighters were on scene.
