Residential street sweeping program to begin April 26

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA –The City of Airdrie’s Roads department will begin residential street sweeping on April 26 and residents are asked to help us make a clean sweep by ensuring their cars are moved off the street.
“Look for large orange signs at entrances to your neighbourhood and ensure your vehicle is moved off the street on the dates indicated on the sign. We like to say watch for the sign, avoid the fine,” says Mike Avramenko, Team Leader of Road Operations. “The orange signs are not located on every street, only at the main access roads into the community.”
The City of Airdrie will once again be using a tag and tow program to ensure a clean sweep in City neighbourhoods. Vehicles left in the area can expect to be towed and ticketed. Residents are asked to park vehicles on their driveway or rear garage pad and to remove driveway ramps if they have them.
“Our ultimate goal is to have residents move their vehicles so that our streets can be swept as efficiently as possible, without towing” says Avramenko.
Cleaning the streets is important for residents' safety and for the environment. It removes winter debris, preventing it from entering the storm drains, keeping city waterways cleaner. It also cuts down on air pollution caused by dust and makes it safer for spring and summer activities.

The City sweeps over 397 lane kilometers of paved residential roads and getting the work done is a collaborative effort between the City and our residents.
