Indigenous art exhibit on display at Genesis Place
June 20, 2022 / For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie, in partnership with Colouring It Forward Reconciliation Society (CIFRS), are inviting Airdrie residents and visitors to experience the CIFRS Truth and Reconciliation Indigenous Art Exhibit at Genesis Place.
The exhibit showcases a variety of works from 18 Indigenous artists from across Canada, along with artist bios and messaging about the significance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The reverse side of each piece features “ReconciliActions” — actions that can be taken to participate in reconciliation, such as attending a cultural event, making reconciliation a family project, or volunteering your time to an Indigenous non-profit organization.
“We’re honoured to have this opportunity to share and amplify the voices and stories of Indigenous peoples by hosting this exhibit at Genesis Place,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “The exhibit offers ways for residents to take meaningful action to support Indigenous communities and build a better future together.”
"CIF Reconciliation Society is grateful to the City of Airdrie for exhibiting the Truth and Reconciliation Indigenous Art Exhibit that we built in collaboration with SouthCentre Mall and Indigenous artists from all over Turtle Island,” says Diana Frost, CIF Reconciliation Society. “We hope people will learn from Indigenous artists' expressions of Truth and Reconciliation as well as get ideas for what they can do themselves to help further Truth & Reconciliation."
In honour of National Indigenous History Month, the CIFRS Truth and Reconciliation Indigenous Art Exhibit at Genesis Place will be on display throughout June and will run until August 29, 2022.
