Kitchen catchers

Odours/Pests
Pests and odours are seldom an issue with the kitchen catchers as the vented lids and smaller size are designed to keep odours to a minimum. However, if you have concerns, here are a few tips to minimize the potential for odors/pests:

  • Empty your kitchen catcher often.
  • Line your kitchen catcher with newspaper, paper bags or compostable bags.
  • Wash the kitchen catcher periodically by hand or in the dishwasher (lid is removable).
  • Sprinkle baking soda in your kitchen catcher.

Lining options

  • No liner
  • Paper bags
  • Newspaper
  • Compostable bags

Compostable bags are available at most major grocery and home hardware retailers in Airdrie. Biodegradable is not the same as compostable. If you choose to use a compostable bag, ensure it has one of these symbols:

Contamination
The biggest contaminate to organic material is plastic bags. Never use a plastic bag to line your kitchen catcher or place any plastic into the green cart.
