Grading of gravel alleys is currently underway. Maintenance is expected to last from May 3 - July 31, weather permitting.
Grading is done to improve the driving surface of the alley by smoothing out pot holes and rutting, as well as improve drainage. All gravel alleys throughout the City will be graded and assessed for additional maintenance as required.
Signs are placed at the entrance to the alleys to indicate that grading is occurring. Please refer to the Alley Maintenance Map. The zone that is coloured in red is the zone where grading is occurring, this will be updated as the status of the zones change.
Alleys are maintained in two steps:
Step One: Grading is done by a grader to smooth out the surface. Each alley is assessed individually for further maintenance, including adding additional gravel where necessary.
Step Two: Further maintenance is scheduled and gravel is added where necessary.
Public Works asks that you remove vehicles and other items from the alley that may impede maintenance (Bylaw #901).
