The City of Airdrie maintains 69 playgrounds located within city parks or on most school sites. You can take a virtual tour of our playgrounds!
Five of our playgrounds are joint use with the Rocky View School Division.
- Muriel Clayton
- A.E. Bowers
- Edwards School
- RJ Hawkey
- Meadowbrook School
Our playgrounds are intended to help children develop physical coordination, strength and flexibility as well as providing free recreation and enjoyment. In many cases, they are both challenging and stimulating. Playgrounds are among the most important environment for childhood development outside of the home and are a valued asset in a park.
The City's playgrounds are designed for children anywhere from the ages of 2-12. The majority of our playgrounds are geared to the 5-12 year old category with the exception of a few of them offering a wider age range in the 2-12 year old category along with only a couple for the 2-5 year old range.
Outdoor gyms have become very popular in Canada over the last few years and the City of Airdrie is proud to have the following two locations to offer Airdrie residents:
- Nose Creek Regional Park (West side)
- East Lake Regional Park (East side) - northeast of the Tennis Courts
'Green Gym' is outdoor fitness equipment similar to that of what would be found in an indoor gym.
Pieces of equipment varies from cross trainers to strength training. These pieces uses one's own body weight for resistance. Our green gyms provide a great opportunity for people ages 12 and up to enjoy fitness for free in a non-intimidating environment. These pieces of equipment are also beneficial for warm-ups and stretching, balance and flexibility, cardio, core strength as well as upper and lower body strength.
Please report any damage or vandalism to the City of Airdrie Parks department by email firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 403.948.8400.
Our playgrounds are inspected on a monthly basis by a Canadian Certified Playground Inspector. Any maintenance and repairs that require immediate attention are done and completed in a timely manner. The City has an on-going commitment to ensuring that our playgrounds comply with Canadian Safety Association (CSA) safety standards.
From time to time, our playgrounds may need repairing, replacing and may even be closed at times.
