In order to facilitate future growth, the existing section of 40 Avenue East is required to be extended further east. In order for 40 Avenue East to be extended, the approved development format outlined in the Southeast Airdrie Community Area Structure Plan (CASP) and King’s Heights Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP) will need to be amended. The approved land use districts dictated by these planning documents will also need to be amended.
Southeast Airdrie CASP/King’s Heights NSP Amendments
The City of Airdrie is currently reviewing amendments to the Southeast Airdrie CASP and King's Heights NSP. A section of the existing north-south service road (Kingsview Road SE) parallel to QE II Highway is located in close proximity to the proposed interchange and will be closed in the future to accommodate the project.
The documents listed below provide an overview of the length of the road extension, the proposed right-of-way and design for the road extension and the proposed changes to the Community Area Structure Plan, Neighbourhood Structure Plan and Land Use Bylaw.
The City is currently preparing amendment bylaws to be presented to the Municipal Planning Commission (MPC), and thereafter, to City Council at a public hearing. Prior to MPC, the City will inform members of the public and other stakeholders of the statutory plan amendments and the future closure of a section Kingsview Road SE in the following manner:
1. Public notice in “City Connection” section of the local newspaper
2. Letters mailed out to affected businesses
Public Hearing - Monday, August 17, 2020, 6 p.m.
Airdrie residents will have the opportunity to attend a virtual public hearing to speak in favour of, or against the proposed amendments. Additional details and copies of the proposed bylaws are available at the bottom of this page in the Documents section.

A summary of the comments provided from the public through comment forms and dialogue at the event can be found here:
The feedback from the open house has now been reviewed and discussions held with staff and councillors from Rocky View County and the City of Airdrie, as well as the developer of the affected lands.
After considering all of the feedback, a significant change has been made to the proposed land use districts along the boundary with Rocky View County, and conversations remain ongoing about the best ways to address the other items raised during the open house.
