Information for candidates

The next municipal election will be held Monday, October 16, 2017. A comprehensive Candidate Package for 2017 Election is available on this page or pick up a copy at City Hall reception.

Section 147.21 of the Local Authorities Election Act: individuals planning to run in future municipal elections must register with the municipality prior to accepting any campaign contributions. The registration form is on this page.

If your registration information changes, you must submit the change to the City of Airdrie within 48 hours of the change taking effect.

Nomination Day - September 18, 2017

Nomination Papers for Mayor and Councillors must be filed at the City of Airdrie, Council Chambers, 400 Main Street SE, Airdrie, Alberta, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Nomination Day, September 18, 2017. Nomination Papers will not be accepted prior to this time.

Nomination forms must be hand delivered. As long as the Nomination Papers have been commissioned by a Commissioner for Oaths, any individual may file Nomination Papers on behalf of the candidate. The candidate is responsible for ensuring that the Nomination Papers have been fully completed and meet the requirements for filing.

SLGM/Alberta Municipal Affairs Candidate Information Session
Please note that the SLGM, in partnership with Alberta Municipal Affairs, is offering five training sessions for potential candidates and their campaign workers. Registration details are available at: www.albertaleaders.ca or by calling 780.796.3839. More information is available here.

Training for Elected Officials

The Elected Officials Education Program will be offering several sessions of "Munis 101, the Essentials of Municipal Government" between the dates of Sept. 11 to Jan. 11 at various locations around Alberta. The City is holding seven seats for the Dec 4 and 5 session in Cochrane. If you are elected, please plan on attending this or one of the other sessions throughout Alberta.
