Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, many local entrepreneurs have decided to take the brave step of starting a business.
Registered massage therapists Ariana and business partner Mandy spent months planning their first entrepreneurial venture. They saw an opportunity to open in a smaller city – appreciating Airdrie’s friendly small-town feel and less crowded market for their services versus Calgary. When the right commercial property became available requiring minimal leasehold improvements, they decided timing was right to seize the opportunity.
Silvercreek Massage opened its doors in December 2020 within Silvercreek shopping centre at #309 – 800 Veterans Blvd NW, only to be impacted by Provincial Health Restrictions on December 13. Despite these challenges, they have felt welcomed by our community and are helping one ‘back-out-of-whack’ customer at a time to alleviate pain and provide health benefits. The ladies offer a wide range of therapeutic massage services seven days a week.

What is your favourite thing about owning your own business?
It is more challenging than just showing up to work… in a good way! I am learning so much and enjoy the feeling of being in control of my own livelihood.
Was this business venture a career change for you?
I have worked for more than four years in massage therapy. It is, however, leading me to a change in residence. I am currently working towards purchasing a home in Airdrie. We love the small-town feel!
What encourages you in your business?
Earning repeat business is so rewarding and encouraging! I’m also encouraged that 90% or more of our clients have health benefits to cover their treatment.
