Main St. water main & sanitary/storm sewer upgrades

This year, the City of Airdrie Water Services department will be installing new water main and sanitary sewer pipe along Main Street. During this project sections of Main Street will be completely closed. We encourage motorists to use 8 St. and Edmonton Trail as alternative north-south routes during construction.

The full closure of Main Street versus a partial closure
allows the project to be:
• Less expensive
• Completed sooner

The water and sanitary sewer pipe needs to be replaced as the current system is reaching the end of its lifecycle.
This project will prepare us for future growth and help ensure that our
infrastructure does not fail at inopportune times. Detour information will be
posted here for each phase of construction.

Timeline update

The Main St. water main & sanitary/storm sewer upgrades from Veterans BV. to Elk Hill were scheduled to be completed by Oct. 31, 2019, however underground conditions and uncooperative weather has put the contractor behind schedule. Due to this delay, the City has made adjustments to our construction timelines. We anticipate that we will only be able to complete the upgrades between 1 Avenue to Veterans BV this summer. Because of this, the remaining phases - from 1 Ave. to Elk Hill SE - will likely be re-scheduled to next spring. If this changes and we are able to get more done than we anticipate, we will let businesses and residents know.

To ensure the work proceeds as quickly as possible our contractor has extended working hours to 15 hours per day instead of 12 and when possible seven days a week instead of six.

We understand that this construction has had an impact on residents and businesses. We thank you for your understanding and patience and we will continue to provide updates as we have them.
