Southwest CASP

An application for the Southwest Community Area Structure Plan (Southwest CASP) is currently under review by the City of Airdrie. The plan area is located in the southwest quadrant of Airdrie, occupying ten-quarter sections of land consisting of approximately 1,600 acres and are owned by Qualico Communities and several other landowners.

The proposed Southwest CASP will be comprised predominantly of residential uses with commercial and mixed use proposed along 56th Avenue and the 24th Street/56th Avenue intersection. The plan proposes to accommodate a population of 25,000 to 32,000 residents and create a significant amount of employment.

The Southwest CASP Development Partner is Qualico Communities.


What is a Community Area Structure Plan?

A Community Area Structure Plan (CASP) is a statutory document that Council adopts to provide direction on the future land use, transportation network, infrastructure and servicing concepts for a designated plan area. A CASP is required to follow policy direction outlined in the Airdrie City Plan and the AirdrieONE Sustainability Plan.

Once Council adopts a CASP, a Neighbourhood Structure Plan may be produced for smaller sections of land within the CASP plan area. Following the adoption of the NSP, land use (zoning), subdivision and development will occur.


How can you get involved?

A virtual Open House was hosted by the developer on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 to solicit feedback from the public on the proposed CASP. The feedback from the Open House has been provided as a “What We Heard” report.

A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 18th at 5 p.m. to provide affected stakeholders with an opportunity to provide comments and input to City Council. (Please note the Public Hearing previosuly scheduled for Monday, May 17th was rescheduled for Tuesday, May 18th at 5 p.m.)
