City fees for community facilities and services to adjust Sept. 1, 2025

May 8, 2025 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, AB – Fees for community facilities like Genesis Place and services like Airdrie Transit will adjust on Sept. 1, 2025, as part of the User Fees and Charges Bylaw (PDF), as approved on April 15, 2025.

The User Fees and Charges Policy (PDF), which was amended by Council earlier this year, states that a Consumer Price Index (CPI) factor be applied in budget years two through four of a Council term, of which the City is currently in year four of. Utilizing the Calgary and Region Economic Outlook report for reference, fees that became effective in May 2025 will be adjusted by 1.7 per cent, in alignment with the report's CPI projection, effective Sept. 1, 2025.

In 2024, the scheduled fee adjustment was tabled by Council for a policy review before approval as part of the 2025 budget deliberations last November. This delayed the 2024 community facilities and services fee adjustment, which typically takes effect in September, to May 1, 2025.

“Fee adjustments for community facilities and services like Genesis Place take place in September to align with major user group contracts,” says Brad Anderson, manager, Recreation Services. “Where other City user fees and charges for 2026 become effective in January of that year, for recreation and transit, the rate adjustments that come into effect Sept. 1, are the approved 2026 fees.”

The User Fees and Charges Policy ensures proposed rates are presented for approval in the spring of each year so that user fees and charges revenue can be built into the City budget for Council deliberation in the fall. The User Fees and Charges Bylaw No. B-41/2023 list fees and charges assigned to City services which are calculated under the User Fees and Charges Policy. The policy does not apply to taxes, levies, fines, penalties, fees established in contracts or through procurement process, or utility service rates for sewer, waste, recycling or water services.
