City urges residents to register to vote in the Airdrie Municipal Election happening in October

May 16, 2025
For immediate release

Airdrie, AB – The City of Airdrie is asking all residents to register to vote or update their voter information for the Airdrie Municipal Election. Registering early will save residents time while voting during the Municipal Election Period from Oct. 8 – 20, 2025.

Anyone who is 18 years old, a Canadian citizen and a resident of the City of Airdrie can register to vote.

“Taking five minutes now to get on the voters’ list as a first-time voter, update existing voter information or checking if a resident is registered to vote helps saves our residents time during the election,” says Noshy Karbani, project lead for census and municipal elections at the City of Airdrie.

The requirement for a voters’ list registration came with the passing of the Provincial Government’s Bill 20.

“The 2025 Airdrie Municipal Election will be significantly different from previous elections. Due to Bill 20, we are now required to maintain a voters’ list, and hand count each paper ballot cast during the election resulting in more time required for delivering the results,” says Charlotte Satink, the Returning Officer for Elections Airdrie. “That, combined with Airdrie’s at-large representation system (meaning no ward system), makes this election very complex requiring a lot of additional hands to count, and we will be looking to hire a lot more election workers starting in June,” she added.

The 2025 Airdrie Municipal Election will be held for electing the City of Airdrie’s Mayor and Councillors, along with the Ward 3 Trustees for the Rocky View School Board.
