Holiday waste and recycling tips

Not sure what goes where around the holidays? Here are some tips for common holiday items.

Broken Christmas decorations, like ornaments. If sharp, place in a puncture proof container. Ribbons, bows, tinsel, cellophane, foil wrapping paper and gift bags. Save them for next year or another holiday. Shiny or foil wrapping paper Clean aluminum foil pans and plates	Black garbage cart
Reuse, freeze or place food in your green cart (certified compostable bags, newspaper or paper bags only) Napkins, paper towel and food soiled paper plates Pumpkins (no paint or decorations attached)	Green organic bin
Dry cardboard (remove tape and flatten) Greeting cards, envelopes, tissue paper and plain wrapping paper (no foil/shiny wrapping paper) Carts need to close to be collected. Christmas lights, electronic decorations and batteries Clean packaging polystyrene foam. Remove all tape (no food related Styrofoam^TM accepted) Excess and oversize cardboard boxes Clothing in any condition Real Christmas trees. Remove all decorations and bring real Christmas trees to the Recycle Depot from Dec. 27 to Jan. 31 to be chipped (no tree bags, branches, leaves or wreaths) for our annual tree chipping event. Residential garbage placed in green space garbage bins or dumping on the road is illegal. Please plan ahead for excess waste around the holidays.
