Clean energy improvement process

The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) process has eight main steps:

1

Pre-qualification

  • Read the CEIP terms and conditions.
  • Complete the pre-qualification form to confirm that you and your property meet the basic program qualification criteria.

2

EnerGuide home evaluation

  • Once pre-qualified, schedule an EnerGuide home evaluation to learn about your home’s energy performance. This will help you understand your priority options for home improvements.
  • EnerGuide Home Evaluations should be completed by a Natural Resources Canada Energy Advisor listed in the contractor directory.

CEIP Qualified Contractor Directory.

3

Project application

  • Using the Renovation Upgrade Report provided by your Energy Advisor as a guide, decide which eligible upgrades you want to finance through CEIP (upgrades must be listed on the residential upgrades list and must meet all eligibility requirements).
  • Once you've chosen your project(s), select a qualified contractor. Then plan your project and submit your project application to Alberta Municipalities.

4

Agreements

  • If your application is approved, we will confirm the financing amount and provide the Clean Energy Improvement Agreement and the Project Agreement for your review and signature. Both agreements must be signed by all required parties before upgrade installation(s) can begin.
5

Project installation

  • After signing agreements, work with your qualified contractor to complete the improvements. All upgrades that are part of the project must be completed within six months.
6

Upgrade completion

  • When your upgrade installation is complete, you will need to submit an upgrade completion form confirming final upgrade details and costs to Alberta Municipalities for review.
7

Post-project EnerGuide home evaluation

  • After your project is complete, a post-project EnerGuide evaluation will need to be completed to provide a new rating and label based on your home’s upgrades.
8

Repayment

  • You’ll repay the project cost through your property tax bill as per your Clean Energy Improvement Agreement.
