Application screening and invitations to participate in the competition process.

Only those short listed to participate in the competition will be notified

Completed by January 11

 

Written Fire and Medical Knowledge Exam

Multiple choice exam on basic fire and Primary Care Paramedic knowledge

Based on Essentials 6, AHS First Response Medical Protocol 2018, ITLS 8th Edition, and Heart & Stroke Basic Life Support Provider Manual.

Proof of certification must be presented

Medical Scenarios

Primary Care Paramedic trauma or medical scenario

Scenarios will be based on AHS First Response Medical Protocols

A CPAT (Candidate Physical Abilities Test) or University of Alberta Firefighter Physical Assessment Certification will only be require for those candidates invited to continue on to the interview process

Only those with a valid certification will be interviewed.

Behavioural Based Interview

 

  March 4 – 6

Initial Position Offer

 

Verbal offers will be made to top candidates pending successful completion of psychometric interview and pre-employment medical  

Psychometric Testing

 

Each candidate invited to an interview will be required to complete a Psychometric Questionnaire Questionnaire will be completed on the same day as department interview

Psychological Interview

 

Successful candidates will be required to complete an interview with a psychological professional provided by the department

There is no cost to the candidate for this process

March 13 afternoon

 

 

Pre-Employment Medical

 

Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment medical based on NFPA 1582 requirements

There is no cost to the candidate

March 18

 

 

Confirmation of Offers Positions will be confirmed to the successful candidates

March 22

 

Corporate and Department Orientation

Four week orientation - 8 hour days

Monday through Friday

April 23

 

Active Duty

 

Successful employees will be assigned to their platoon and report for active duty

24 hour shifts
