Over Dimensional/Over Weight Permits

A permit is required if you are moving an over-height, over-dimensional or over-weight load (as defined within Alberta Transportation guidelines and in accordance with the Traffic Safety Act and Motor Vehicle Registration Act) through the City of Airdrie.

All single trip over-dimensional permits for Airdrie are available online through the provincial Transportation Routing and Vehicle Information System (TRAVIS). The cost for an Airdrie permit is $25 (non-refundable). Please call 1-800-662-7138 for all questions and assistance.

High load moves requiring traffic lights to be turned MUST be scheduled 48hrs in advance. If less than 48hrs notice is given, it is subject to a short notice fee (see the High Load Moves Scheduling Letter).

If your load requires traffic lights to be turned, someone from RoaData will be in contact to confirm dates/time or you can email permits@roadata.com with your requested date/time. All turning of traffic signals will still be done by City of Airdrie Staff at either 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Our fee structure is listed in the High Load Moves Scheduling Letter and will be added directly to the permit fees.

We ask that any loads that may impede traffic, not be moved during peak traffic times (eg. wide loads or high load moves requiring power lines or traffic lights to be moved). During weekdays, peak traffic times are:

  • 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
  • 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Please see our Dangerous Goods Routes Map and Truck Route and Road Ban Map for reference.

TAC (tridem axle configuration) Permit

With this new system in place, the City of Airdrie is requiring all tridem configuration trucks (12 or 24 tires) that exceeds 17,000kg carry an Airdrie TAC permit in addition to the provincial TAC permit. The Airdrie TAC permit will be valid for 365 days from purchase date. It can be obtained by contacting RoaData Services Ltd. at the number listed below.

ROADATA Services Ltd: 1 (888) 444-9288, www.roadata.com

While initially, there will be a grace period to allow carriers to obtain the Airdrie TAC permit and ensure a copy is in each truck; it will be strictly enforced effective January 1, 2018.

Multi Load Truck Haul Permit

A permit is required for multi-load hauls to ensure the City has inspected the road prior to authorization. All multi load hauls may require a Road Use Agreement regardless of the duration of haul, number of loads, and whether the haul is done all in one period of time or split over multiple periods. Large hauls may require some additional Geo-testing (at the expense of the haul company) and may also require an LOC (line of credit). An LOC would be required if the City determines haul may directly impact integrity of the road and repairs would be necessary at the conclusion of the haul. The intent is to return the road(s) impacted to their original state prior to beginning of haul. An additional inspection will be completed at the end of the haul to determine extent of repairs. For more information please contact Engineering Services at 403-948-8835.

Please contact RoaData to request a permit:
