AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 10:44 hours, the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to #2300 Baywater Crescent SW to assist Alberta Health Services (AHS) at the scene of a reported work site injury.
On arrival fire crews found AHS paramedics treating a construction worker in the lower level of a home under construction. The male worker had fallen through an access hole located on the main level into the basement, a distance of approximately three meters (10 feet).
Firefighters worked with paramedics to package and secure the patient to a spine board for removal through a basement window opening. Once outside he was placed on a stretcher and quickly moved into a waiting ambulance for further assessment and transport to hospital.
The work site was secured by RCMP. Occupational Health and Safety are investigating this incident.
Two pieces of AFD apparatus and five firefighters were on scene.
