AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The 2013 census is underway in the city of Airdrie. City enumerators have distributed pink door hangers throughout the city that contain a unique PIN. Residents are encouraged to use this PIN in combination with their home address to complete the census online at airdrie.ca/census.
Each year, the City of Airdrie receives grants from provincial and federal governments based on population. In additional to grant money from other levels of government, decisions regarding future transportation networks, the locations of schools, parks, utilities and fire protection facilities are based, to a large extent, on statistics on population growth collected in the municipal census.
“Accurate population numbers translate to maximum grant dollars for our city, “ says Sharon Pollyck, Manager, Legislative Services, City of Airdrie. “It’s fast and easy to count yourself in, so please go online and help us break our target of 60 per cent online completion.”
Residents who do not have the opportunity to complete the census online prior to April 25 will be visited by a census worker between April 25 and May 22. The census worker will use an iPad to collect the resident’s information. If residents are not at home when the enumerator visits their home, contact information will be left on the door so residents have the opportunity to follow up.
Anyone looking for more information on the census is invited to call the City of Airdrie census office at 403.948.8816.
