August 6, 2013 / For Immediate Release
The City of Airdrie’s population continues to grow, with the official 2013 census result at 49,560, a 8.42 per cent growth rate, compared to 5.92 per cent last year.
The City’s population grew by 3,849 or 11 new residents per day, versus 2,556 total or 7 new residents per day last year. “We are building for today and the future,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “Genesis Place and Bert Church Theatre both expanded this year; as well as the building of the new water line, road works projects and new commercial opportunities which all demonstrate our commitment to our growing community.”
In 2013, 1056 new homes were built to-date in Airdrie, an increase of 6.14 per cent for a total of 18,230 – this includes single family and multi-family residential options. Windsong, King’s Heights and Williamstown are relatively new neighbourhoods that experienced the greatest growth.
In 2013, 46.54 per cent of residents completed the survey online.
“Accurate census numbers are important because other orders of government use per capita ratios in determining grant levels,” says Sharon Pollyck, Manager of Legislative Services and Corporate Communications. “We appreciate our residents taking the time to answer the questions asked in the census.”
Complete census findings will be posted online at www.airdrie.ca this fall.
