Manage two-factor authentication

What is two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) helps protect your account by adding an extra step when you sign in. In addition to your password, you must enter a one-time verification code available in Google Authenticator after setup. This helps prevent unauthorized access, even if someone knows your password.

Set up 2FA

  • Go to Manage account,
  • Select the Two-factor authentication link,
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to:
    • Download the Google Authenticator app,
    • Scan the QR code,
    • Enter the verification code sent to your phone.
  • Select the Submit button, and once enabled, you will be asked to enter a verification code each time you sign in.

Troubleshooting verification code issues

If you're having issues with your verification code, make sure to:

  • Enter the code exactly as shown,
  • Check that your phone has a strong signal,
  • Confirm the date and time on your device are set correctly,
  • Request a new code and try again.

Update phone numbers or reset 2FA (with account access)

In myAIRDRIE, 2FA is handled using the Google Authenticator app and is tied to your device. If you have a new phone (same or different number) and still have access to Google Authenticator on your old phone, use the export accounts feature in Authenticator.

If you do not have access to Google Authenticator, but have access to your myAIRDRIE account:

Disable your existing 2FA:

Then, enable 2FA on your new device:

  • Go to Manage account,
  • Select the Two-factor authentication link,
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to:
    • Download the Google Authenticator app,
    • Scan the QR code,
    • Enter the verification code sent to your phone,
    • Select the Submit button.
