Holiday recycling

Holiday waste and recycling tips:

Not sure what goes where around the holidays? Here are some tips for common holiday items. Search for items not listed.

Garbage
  • Broken Christmas decorations,  like ornaments. If sharp, place in a puncture proof container and place next to garbage bag/container. Electronic items such as lights can be brought to the Recycle Depot
  • Ribbons, bows, tinsel, cellophane, foil wrapping paper and gift bags. Save them for next year or another holiday.
  • Excess garbage tags cost $3 each and can be purchased at City Hall, Recycle Depot, Genesis Place, Inspire or various grocery and pharmacy stores in Airdrie.
  • Reminder that placing residential garbage in green space garbage bins is illegal. Please plan ahead for excess waste around the holidays.
Reuse or dispose of fake Christmas trees at the Transfer Site.

  • Excess and oversize cardboard boxes.

  • Reuse, freeze or place food in your green cart (certified compostable bags, newspaper or paper bags only).
