Airdrie, AB - The City of Airdrie will be changing its pound and animal rescue provider later this year as part of plans to develop a sustainable service model that best meets the needs of Airdrie residents.
The City’s current service agreement with the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC) is set to expire on March 31, 2025, and the City is exploring long-term options that will meet the communities growing population.
After March 31, residents who find lost or stray cats or dogs can contact Airdrie Municipal Enforcement’s 24-hour complaint line at 403.948.8888. Stray cats can also be taken to Tails to Tell Animal Shelter in Crossfield, during their regular hours. Dogs picked up by Municipal Enforcement will be cared for by a non-public facing animal care facility.
It is expected that there will be minimal disruptions to the public throughout the development of this new model.
“As we transition to a new provider for this service, our priority will be ensuring that all animals that come into our care are well looked after and provided for,” said Brad Tomlinson, team leader of Municipal Enforcement for the City of Airdrie.
“We greatly appreciate all the efforts and value APARC has brought to our community by providing this important service for our residents. We’ve been happy to work collaboratively with them throughout this process.”
The City will release more details on the long-term plans for pound and rescue services as they are confirmed over the coming months.
