Allysa, Parks Crew Leader

On our culture
The team culture is so inviting and gives the opportunity to grow and learn as an individual and as part of something bigger – whether it’s with the Parks team or the entire City.

On a rewarding work experience
This past January, I became a Red Seal Landscape Horticulturist and the City sponsored me through my apprenticeship.

On being proud to work for the City
I know my work matters to so many people. Whether it’s plowing the pathways in winter or working with my summer staff to keep the Spray Park at Chinook Winds safe and operational, I am proud of the work I do here.

Brad, Coordinator, Municipal Enforcement

On applying to the City
Coming from the same role in another municipality, I saw Airdrie as an opportunity for professional growth and a new challenge; a growing municipality presented a lot of opportunity to improve my professional skill set and be involved in a new work culture I had heard so much about.

On a rewarding work experience
The most rewarding part of my work is all the community events I have been involved in such as school presentations, airdrieFEST etc. I take great pride in being a part of our community in my professional role and the sense of giving back and being involved with our youth.

On applying to work at the City
I very much enjoy living and working in the same city. I also wanted to make a difference in the community that I live in with the work I do on a daily basis.

On our culture
The company culture and work environment are great, fostering a work-life balance that allows us to succeed personally and professionally. Additionally, I am fortunate to work with a great group of individuals.

On being proud to work for the City
I truly love the work I do on a daily basis. In addition, I am fairly compensated for the work I do and the City takes care of employees with a great benefits program.

On our culture
Working for the City is centred around community and culture. I am consistently working on “living” our vision and core values, which has allowed me the opportunity to work in a fun and safe environment where I feel heard and encouraged to be a better version of myself.

On being proud to work for the City
I love that I serve the members of my community. I absolutely love getting to know our customers, building relationships with our regulars and creating opportunities to serve our members.

Chad, Senior Customer Service Representative

On applying to work at the City
I was attending fitness classes at the gym and through talking with other staff members I realized, I would love to work here. The staff loved working here and they seized the opportunity to connect with patrons. I embarked on obtaining my Group Fitness Certification which led to me becoming an instructor at Genesis Place. I worked as a fitness instructor for years. In 2019, a position was created at Genesis Place as a Duty Manager and I decided it was time to move from being a casual employee to a full-time employee and applied for the position.

On our culture
The culture and work environment is one where growth and opportunity is always available. I have appreciated how each Team Leader I have served alongside holds you with an open hand. They appreciate you while you are on their team and recognize the value that you bring. They also encourage and coach you for future growth whether that is within their department or to prepare you for succession within the organization. The core value of open dialogue is very evident throughout the organization.

On applying to work at the City
What initially drew me to a career with the City was the chance to work in the place I’ve called home for my entire life. Being born and raised here, the opportunity to work for the City was exciting so I jumped right in as I felt this would be a great place to work and I was not wrong.

On our culture
Working for the City is great. There is a sense of belonging in the Roads department. Everyone helps each other out and is willing to step up when needed. It is a great atmosphere.

On a rewarding work experience
The best part of working here is not only the friends I’ve made but my accomplishments. Since starting with the City, I have progressed through the Roads department and with support from my Team Leader I received additional training so that I could be promoted to my current position as coordinator.

On being proud to work for the City
I am proud that all of the work happening around Airdrie is helping to improve the lives of residents. It makes me very happy to know that I was apart of something that helped solve an issue residents may have been experiencing.

On applying to the City
As soon as I had the opportunity to meet some of the employees and leaders, I knew that this is where I wanted to work.

On our culture
The organizational culture has always been outstanding – they really want everyone to enjoy coming to work. The work environment is the healthiest organization I have ever worked in. As employees, we are supported in so many ways to help with living a happy, healthy life.
