There are different assistance programs that Airdrie residents can apply for when needing housing or rental assistance.
Additionally, there are also a variety social and public agencies in Airdrie that provide key social programs and services to the community beyond the scope of affordable housing.
Affordable Housing Rental Program
Airdrie Housing Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Airdrie. The Affordable Rental Program provides rental units at below market rents to individuals and families whose annual household income qualifies and are currently paying more than 30% of the gross monthly income on rent.
Airdrie Housing Limited has 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartment and condominium units located close to schools, shopping and employment in Airdrie. Rents are set at a minimum of 10% below market and may be further reduced by rent supplement programs, where applicable.
Those within the prescribed income levels for the Affordable Housing program are invited to complete an application and submit it to Airdrie Housing.
As of Jan. 1 2024, landlords in Alberta will be required to pay 1.6 per cent interest on security deposits held in trust for tenants in residential and mobile homes tenancies as stated in the Residential Tenancies Act and Mobile Home Tenancies Act.
A first home savings account (FHSA) is a registered plan which allows you, if you are a first-time home buyer, to save to buy or build a qualifying first home tax-free (up to a certain dollar amount).
Rocky View Foundation Rent Assistance Benefit Program
Monthly rent supplement programs are available to help Albertans in need to afford their rent. Government subsidizes affordable housing programs, while local housing providers are responsible for managing the program and selecting tenants.
The rent supplement program provides a subsidy to help make rental accommodation more affordable for individuals and families.
Rent Assistance Benefits are funds paid directly to Rocky View Foundation subsidy recipients to help make their rent with a private landlord more affordable.
Rocky View Foundation provides affordable housing options to independent seniors (65+) living in the Rocky View, Alberta region. Rates are below market value to ensure affordability with a variety of housing options, including independent living in apartment-style manors and supportive living (SL2) facilities.
This benefit is available to Airdrie residents and is a two-year program for working households or for those in between jobs. Learn more about TRAB and eligibility.
