Determined on an annual basis - a property assessment is an estimate of the market value of your property as of July 1 of the previous year and the property’s physical condition as of Dec. 31.
Property assessments are used to distribute the total community tax fairly and equitably as provisioned by the Municipal Government Act.
Property assessment notices are mailed each January. Sending assessment notices in advance of property tax notices allows owners 60 days to review the value and details of their property and raise any concern they may have before taxes are calculated.
