Airdrie Cemetery with columbarium and pergola in summerThe Airdrie Cemetery offers traditional burial lots, cremation burial lots, a Field of Honour section for our veterans, as well as four Columbaria for cremation urns.

The Airdrie cemetery offers approximately five acres of beautifully manicured grounds with an arbour surrounding the Columbaria, that provides families with a sense of peace and tranquillity.

The cemetery dates back to the early 1900s and has many early settlers from the area interred here.

The Parks department maintains the City cemetery and manages lot purchasing and burial schedules.

Burials

The City of Airdrie offers single depth burial lots that may accommodate one casket interment. Up to eight cremation urns may be added depending on the size of the lot as well as the size of the urn(s). Only one casket burial is permitted in a single traditional grave, with the exception of a parent and infant child in one casket.

72 hours notice is required before the scheduled burial service is to take place. Some exceptions may be accommodated depending on circumstances.

The Parks department typically does sodding every spring on graves that have settled.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the condition of a loved one's grave, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone at 403.948.8400 or by email at cemeteries@airdrie.ca.

Cremation Burials

The City of Airdrie Cemetery offers an in ground cremation section. Each lot in the cremation section offers families the option of interring four standard size urns or two companion urns.

Columbaria

Over the years, Columbaria have become a popular interment alternative to traditional burial.

A columbarium is a structure that accommodates cremation urns. The four Columbaria at the Airdrie Cemetery are round dome units and have granite tablets which are constructed of 3/4" natural black granite slabs and may be engraved to the family's liking.

These niches serve a similar purpose to that of a grave site monument and becomes a place for family and loved ones to visit and pay their respects.

Some niches may accommodate up to two regular size urns. Please contact the Parks department to ensure proper dimensions prior to purchasing urn(s).

Monuments

Lot owners may place a headstone at any time, before, or after a burial takes place.

A monument permit is required for all new monuments, headstones, and footmarkers placed at a grave.
