The City of Airdrie will make an exemption to the weekly bag limit for residents that have excess waste because of a medical or health related situation.
Eligible applicants will receive excess waste tags to cover one extra garbage bag per week for six months. An application must be completed every six months for continued service. This program is for residents in single family homes who currently receive City collection services. It is not for home-based businesses such as day homes or daycares. Participation in the City of Airdrie's curbside recycling and organics programs is still required under the Waste Management Bylaw No. B-07/2017.
Staff will review applications within one week of receipt. Once the application is reviewed staff will contact applicants via phone regarding pick-up of the excess waste tags.

If you have excess garbage...
Check to make sure you have:
properly sorted your waste (food, yard, pet waste go in green cart, recycling in blue cart).
bring batteries, hazardous waste, packaging foam, light bulbs, chemicals etc. to the RECYCLE DEPOT.
bring extra garbage the transfer site for a fee or purchase excess waste tags for your bags and set out at the curb on your garbage collection day
Up to three tagged garbage bags can accompany your regular bag each week (maximum of four bags of garbage a week).
keep extra material until your next collection day.
The collection trucks are automated and equipped to pick up carts only. Your cart will not be collected if there is material piled up next to it.
If you have excess organics...
save excess yard waste until your next collection day, when material will fit into the cart
cut branches smaller to make more room.
reduce food purchases at store so less is wasted.
Your cart will not be collected if there is material piled up next to it. Your cart needs to be an acceptable weight for the truck to collect. If you can easily roll your cart, it is likely okay for collection.
Excess and large yard waste can be brought to the transfer site for a fee. This includes:
large branches
tree stumps
excess leaves, branches and grass
No food or pet waste accepted at the Transfer Site.
