Summer Day Camps youth volunteers help lead summer day camp programs at Genesis Place and Inspire under the guidance of City of Airdrie Recreation Leader staff. Volunteers gain experience working with children from diverse backgrounds while contributing to the summer day camps experience.
The youth volunteer summer program utilizes LEAD training developed by the City of Calgary. Teens build foundational leadership skills, confidence and community awareness.
Youth volunteers must be able to commit to completing the full LEAD training course and commit to a minimum of four full weeks of availability during the summer.

The City of Airdrie utilizes LEAD Training, developed by the City of Calgary, in preparing volunteers to participate in its Summer Day Camps program. The training focuses on practical, transferable skills youth can apply at camp, at school and beyond, including:
Leadership: understanding leadership fundamentals, qualities of effective leaders and identifying personal leadership styles.
Personal wellness: exploring physical, emotional and mental wellness, including stress and time management.
Communication: developing verbal and non-verbal communication skills, focusing on active listening, feedback approaches and awareness of first impressions.
Teamwork: learning how teams function, what makes them effective and how to contribute positively.
Problem solving and decision making: strengthening critical thinking and thoughtful decision-making skills.
Conflict management: understanding why conflict occurs and how to address it constructively.
Diversity: exploring bias, inclusion and how diversity strengthens teams and leadership.
Planning and organization: setting goals, planning activities, organizing tasks and evaluating outcomes.
Leisure education: understanding the role of leisure in physical, emotional and social well-being.
