AIRDRIE, AB - At 12:02 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, the Airdrie Fire Department, EMS, RCMP and CP Rail Police, responded to a collision between a vehicle and a train on Township Road 274 just east of Range Road 11.
On arrival crews found a single adult entrapped in the vehicle requiring a difficult 20-minute extrication. AFD worked closely with EMS throughout the extrication and treatment of the patient.
No further details will be released about the adult or the vehicle at this time, pending notification of the driver’s next of kin.
Events leading up to the collision are currently unknown, but investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be on site.
The rail crossing on Township Road 274 will be closed for an undetermined amount of time as the investigation is conducted. Please avoid this area, as delays should be expected.
There are no hazardous materials being carried by the train and there has been deemed to be no further risk to the public at this time.
