Urban forest

Trees are a community asset and an important part of a community’s image, identity and well-being.

The City of Airdrie encourages the expansion and preservation of City trees as outlined in our Urban Forest Policy. The City recognizes that all trees have a life expectancy and will eventually need to be removed and replaced. Trees will only be removed when specific criteria are met.

Tree and shrub planting

The City of Airdrie enhances its green infrastructure by planting trees and shrubs throughout the City on a yearly basis.

Parks staff conducts in-house tree planting of smaller, container grown trees and shrubs, while larger ball and burlap tree planting is contracted out.

Tree protection guidelines

The City of Airdrie provides TREE PROTECTION GUIDELINES as an agreement between the property owner and the City when development is occurring near public trees.

Annual tree planting

The City plants hundreds of new trees each year to maintain and grow the City's urban forest. When planting sites for each year have been determined, a map on this page will show where new trees will be planted or trees that have failed to thrive will be replaced.

Watch for next planting season's map to be populated here in a few months.

Request a tree

If you would like to request a tree, please contact our Parks Department with the nearest street address and a description of the location you would like to see a tree planted or replaced. Our Arborist will review your request and you may see a new tree there in an upcoming planting season.
