Candidate and campaign requirements

Candidate nominations for the 2025 Airdrie Municipal Election have now closed. The final public register of candidates will be available on the Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, once the 24-hour withdrawal period is complete. Once a candidate has been duly nominated, their name will appear on the official ballot irrespective of any subsequent changes in status or circumstance.

The City of Airdrie is having a general election for the following candidates:

  • Mayor (1 position)
  • Councillor (6 positions)

The Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) governs elections for Alberta’s local jurisdictions, including Airdrie City Council and Rocky View Schools (Ward 3). Candidates should refer to the LAEA for complete details on the nomination process and obtain legal advice regarding the full extent of their obligations.

Calgary Catholic School Division (CCSD) Trustee elections are administered by Elections Calgary using Election Airdrie voting stations. Candidates for CCSD election can learn more through Calgary Catholic School Division .

Candidates for the Rocky View School Public Board of Trustee election can learn more through the Rocky View Schools election.

Campaign Disclosure Statements

There is a new update to this section as per the updated Local Authorities Election Act on June 5, 2025.

Candidates who have received contributions beginning on January 1 and ending on July 31 of the election year must file a campaign disclosure statement for that period by September 30 of the general election year.  The same criteria applies as below.

Campaign Disclosures to September 30, 2025

As required by the LOCAL AUTHORITIES ELECTION ACT, all candidates must submit a campaign disclosure statement to Elections Airdrie by March 2, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. This includes any candidate who:

  • withdraws their nomination,
  • self-funds their campaign,
  • runs a campaign with zero expenses or contributions, or both, or
  • files a notice of intent to be nominated in 2025,
  • Additionally, any candidate who files a notice of intent to be nominated in 2024 must submit a disclosure statement by March 3, 2025, that covers the 2024 campaign period.

Candidates are responsible for ensuring that their disclosure statements are accurate and submitted on time. Candidates are responsible for late filing fees or administrative penalties from the Election Commissioner of Alberta in the event they are issued.
