City unveils Veterans Memorial Project on Veterans Boulevard.

July 21, 2025 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, AB – The City of Airdrie is pleased to confirm the completed installation of the Veterans Memorial Project along Veterans Boulevard - a meaningful and permanent tribute to the service and sacrifice of Canadian Veterans.

“This memorial is an expression of our community’s gratitude to those who have served”, says Mayor Peter Brown. “It stands as a powerful reminder of those who have given their lives and those who have served with unwavering courage, sacrifice and dedication to secure our freedom and peace. We are proud to honour their legacy in a meaningful way.”

Developed in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion #288 Airdrie and the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans in Canada (ANAVET), the memorial features a series of custom designed elements that honour the stories of local Veterans; Keith Shaw (Army), Larry Skaalrud (Navy), Domenico DiGivannantonio (Air Force) and George Pambrun, an Indigenous Veteran. Their stories can be viewed at airdrie.ca/veteransmemorial.

The installation stretches along Veterans from Main St. to 8 St. and includes:

  • 22 metal banners mounted on light poles
  • 30 metal panels along bridge railings
  • Two artistic benches
  • Two life-sized silhouette sculptures
  • One nautical banner pole

The Veterans Memorial Project is designed to serve as a year-round space for remembrance and reflection. A ceremony will be held later this fall to officially dedicate the memorial to Veterans.
The City, along with the Royal Canadian Legion #288 Airdrie, gratefully acknowledge the Government of Alberta for providing $55,000 in funding through the Community Initiatives Grant Program, which aims to help create opportunities for Albertans to engage with their communities.
