Sept. 29, 2025 / For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, AB – The City of Airdrie is sharing a progress update on pool maintenance work at Genesis Place, with tentative reopening dates now in place for several areas of the aquatics facility. Repairs are progressing and the facility is preparing for a phased reopening beginning in early October, pending final approvals from Alberta Health Services (AHS).
Testing on the leisure pool is complete and the pool has been refilled. Water treatment is underway, with samples scheduled to be sent to Alberta Health Services (AHS) early next week. The target reopening date for the leisure pool, tot pool, steam room and hot tub is Oct. 4, pending successful chemical balancing and AHS approval.
Aquatic group fitness classes and public swimming will resume with the reopening of the leisure pool.
Registration for late-October swimming lessons opens Oct. 5 at 8 a.m. for Airdrie and Rocky View County residents, with open registration beginning Oct. 9.
The dive tank is entering its final stage of repair. Water samples will be sent to AHS on Oct. 6, with a target reopening date of Oct. 11, pending approval.
Tiling work in the lane pool is underway and expected to be completed by the end of next week. Water samples are anticipated to be sent to AHS the week of Oct. 20, with a target reopening date between Oct. 24–29, pending testing.
Lighting upgrades and acoustic panel replacements originally scheduled during the closure have been delayed due to supply chain challenges. This work will continue overnight in the coming months and will not impact pool operations once reopened.
“We know this closure has been difficult for our community, especially for those who rely on the pool for recreation, sport and wellness,” said Brad Anderson, manager of Recreation Services. “We’re incredibly grateful for the patience and understanding shown by our residents and user groups. With reopening now on the horizon, we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the water.”
All reopening dates are tentative and subject to change based on water testing and final approvals. The City of Airdrie thanks residents and user groups for their continued patience and support throughout the extended closure.
