Welcoming our new leader

Airdrie Economic Development is pleased to welcome Sara Chamberlain into the role of Team Leader.

Sara is known by many in the community having served 12 years with the City of Airdrie as an Economic Development Officer. She brings to this new role 20 years of experience in economic development and communications.

“I am excited to take on a new challenge in a community that I love,” says Sara. “I’ve been part of the tremendous growth and change in Airdrie over the past decade, and I’m privileged to now lead our team’s important work: ensuring our city is a place where entrepreneurs and businesses can flourish.”

During her time with the City, Sara has managed numerous successful projects including Airdrie’s Economic Strategy, the SMARTstart entrepreneurial training program, and award-winning communications initiatives. She has developed positive relationships with many community organizations and business owners.

Sara brings to the position a passion for furthering the profession. She holds national and international designations in economic development, and is one of 40 in Canada to have earned a Fellowship designation. She was a volunteer board member with Economic Developers Alberta for six years, including serving as President of the association.

As Team Leader for Airdrie Economic Development, Sara will lead the team responsible for implementing Airdrie’s 10-year economic strategy which includes priorities to revitalize Airdrie’s downtown, improve services for businesses, build the visitor economy, and attract new investment.

Sara was raised on a farm in northeastern Alberta. Her studies, work and travel took her to cities across Canada and the around the globe before settling in Airdrie in 2006. She and her husband, Aaron, have two sons. Outside work, you can find Sara chauffeuring kids to activities, planning the next family vacation, or curled up with a good book.
