AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie’s population continues to grow, with the official 2023 census results at 80,649, a 14.29 per cent growth rate since the last municipal census completed in 2019. The City’s population grew by 10,085 new residents with 2,534 new dwellings to include an average of 2.81 residents per dwelling.

“I am thrilled to announce the results of the 2023 municipal census which reflects Airdrie’s remarkable growth and showcases the vibrant and thriving community we continue to build. Each resident counted represents the diversity and collective spirit that makes Airdrie special,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “With our continued growth, we are aware of both opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. As Airdrie continues to evolve, we remain committed in providing essential infrastructure, improving critical services and supporting economic development while advocating for the city to ensure every resident has access to quality education and health care opportunities to enhance their quality of life.”

Between April 2019 and to the end of March 2023, 2,534 new homes were added in Airdrie, an increase of 9.67 per cent for a total of 28,744 dwellings. This includes single family and multi-family residential options with the communities of South Windsong, Canals and Midtown experiencing the greatest dwelling growth. In 2023, many Airdrie residents continued to provide their census information online. The rate of online completion was at 66.36 per cent.

“Obtaining an accurate population count is crucial as it enables the City to create a meaningful demographic profile that assists the City in planning for future growth in areas such as transportation networks, locations of schools, parks and fire protection facilities and also helps to attract new business opportunities to Airdrie,” says Tammy Belsham, team leader of Legislative Services. “Despite facing many challenges, the City would like to extend its sincere thanks to all involved in the success of the 2023 municipal census.”
