Main st. construction scheduled to begin next month

April 17, 2020 / For immediate release

AIRDRIE, AB – The City of Airdrie Capital Projects department will begin replacing water and sewer infrastructure and installing new stormwater infrastructure along Main Street with a tentative start date of May 4. During this project sections of Main Street will be completely closed.

“We know, especially from our experience last year, that this construction will impact residents and businesses,” said Glenn Archer, Team Leader, Capital Projects. “With many businesses closed right now and residents being asked to stay home, we’re continuing construction as scheduled and hopefully we can minimize future impact.”

The water and sanitary sewer pipe need to be replaced as the current system is reaching the end of its lifecycle. This project will prepare us for future growth and help ensure that our infrastructure does not fail at inopportune times. The work will be completed in phases starting near Elk Hill and moving north. Access to Airdrie Urgent Care Centre will be maintained during construction. Motorists should consider 8 St. and Edmonton Trail as alternative north-south routes during construction.

“We expect construction to be finished by the fall of 2020, as long as the weather cooperates and we don’t come across any other unforeseen circumstances,” said Archer.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we replace this critical infrastructure.
