Airdrie, AB - As the Provincial government begins to lift restrictions put in place by public health orders for COVID-19, the City of Airdrie has been diligently working on reopening plans for all of its public facilities.
With recent changes to the Provincial phase two relaunch, a number of City facilities originally slated to reopen in phase three, will now be able to reopen earlier than anticipated.
“Although, new parts of our business are now able to open earlier than we had anticipated, this does not change our approach to reopening,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “We will continue as planned with our measured approach. The safety of our residents and employees is our highest priority and we will not rush to reopen any of our facilities before we have the people and processes in place to do so safely.”
The City has been able to offer services virtually since mid-March after most facilities were closed in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. In anticipation of reopening, City administration have been working on putting plans in place to welcome residents back into public spaces safely.
“We recognize that feelings about reopening are split. Many people are still concerned about the risks of reopening public facilities, while others are anxious to get back to business, for others, it may be a combination of both,” said City Manager, Paul Schulz. “We understand and feel the same way. We recognize there will be pressure to reopen right away and we appreciate your patience as our staff prepare for your safe return to our facilities.”
No public facilties, that are currently closed, will reopen on Friday, June 12 but, residents and facility users are encouraging to check City of Airdrie social media channels regularly for the most up-to-date information on the timing and status of the reopenings.
