July 19, 2020/ Structure Fire/ AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 11:28 p.m. the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire on a rural property which is located north of Airdrie on Range Road #293.

Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames showing from a large stable structure which was threatening an adjacent residential home and a small storage shed.

As a precaution 12 residents who were home at the time of the incident were temporarily evacuated.

Due to fire hydrants not being readily available in the area large water-tender apparatus from both Airdrie and Crossfield were required to shuttle water to the fire scene.

Initial water lines were put in place to protect exposed buildings and once a sustainable water supply was made available, water was applied directly on the burning structure.

The burning stable eventually collapsed at which time crews began overhaul efforts to manage and extinguish remaining hot spots.

The Fire Prevention Bureau has completed their investigation. Due to the extreme damage caused by the fire the definitive cause remains undetermined.

Damage estimates for the structure and contents are approximately $100,000.

There were no injuries to report.

Seven pieces of apparatus and seventeen firefighters were on scene.
