July 21, 2020/ Vehicle Fire / Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On July 21, 2020 at 7:13 p.m., the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to the report of a structure fire located on Mountain Circle SE.

On arrival, fire crews found fire burning in the engine and passenger compartments of a vehicle housed in a rear, detached garage.

Prior to AFD’s arrival, the vehicle’s owner initially attempted to extinguish the blaze with a portable fire extinguisher and then with water from a garden hose.

Firefighters forced entry under the hood of the vehicle to quickly access and extinguish the fire before it had the opportunity to extend to the structure.

The vehicle’s owner was assessed by AHS on scene for minor smoke inhalation but was not transported. There were no other injuries reported.

The Fire Prevention Bureau continues to investigate the cause and final damage estimates of this fire incident. Six pieces of apparatus and sixteen firefighters were on scene.
