Airdrie City Council say not yet to mandatory masks

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On July 28, 2020, City of Airdrie Council held a special meeting to determine if masks would be made mandatory in our City. Council decided that at this time, masks will not be made mandatory.

Rather than implement a mask bylaw at this time, Council directed staff to prepare a mask bylaw that will be implemented if the City’s number of cases rise. This bylaw would be put into effect if our City reaches an ‘enhanced status’ with Alberta Health Services.

“This is an unprecedented time requiring unpresented decision making,” said Mayor Peter Brown. "Thank you to our residents, businesses and everyone for sharing your passionate opinions and engaging with us on this important topic".

Council considered public feedback, the number of cases currently in our City, the impacts to residents and businesses, what other municipalities are doing in the region and a number of other considerations.
