February 8, 2021/ Alarm Bells - School Evacuation/ AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Monday, February 8, 2021 at 11:14 a.m., the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of alarm bells at Our Lady Queen of Peace School located in the 1000 block of 1 Avenue NW.

On arrival fire crews confirmed that all students and staff had safely evacuated to their designated cold-weather staging area located across the street at Ralph McCall School.

School division maintenance crews were on site and had already taken control of the main water flow supply. They also began required repair and remediation efforts.

There were no injuries to report. Three pieces of apparatus and twelve firefighters were on scene.

Airdrie Fire Department Public Safety Message:
During this anticipated period of extreme cold weather residents should take steps to avoid possible damage to water lines in their homes.

  • Know where the main water shut off is located in your home
  • Disconnect exterior garden hosed and isolate water flow to exterior facets
  • Ensure water lines which are adjacent to exterior walls have been well insulated
  • Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature
  • Keep your garage door closed
  • Repair known drips and leaks prior to expected cold weather
