March 18, 2021/ Structure Fire / AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 10:51 p.m., the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to the report of structure fire located on Luxstone Crescent SW.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a two-storey residential home with heavy fire and smoke conditions showing. Extreme heat and flames from the fire threatened to extend to an adjacent, neighbouring home.

All residents home at the time of the incident, four adults and two children, safely evacuated prior to AFD’s arrival. Evacuees were assessed by the AHS paramedic crew on scene. There were no injuries to report.

Firefighters rescued a pet cat from the home which they then successfully resuscitated with the use of oxygen.

With an aggressive and focused fire attack, the blaze was quickly brought under control. Due to the extreme fire conditions the structure suffered significant interior and exterior damage.

The siding of an exposed, exterior wall on the neighbouring home was also badly damaged.

To ensure the fire was completely extinguished, extensive salvage and overhaul efforts were completed. The Fire Prevention Bureau remains on scene conducting their investigation to determine probable cause and preliminary damage estimates.

Four pieces of apparatus and twelve firefighters were on scene.
