March 28, 2021/ Structure Fire / AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 5:59 a.m., the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire located in the 300 block of Tanner Drive SE.

On arrival, fire crews were met by the homeowner who advised them the fire was located in a detached garage at the rear of the property.

When firefighters gained entry into the garage, they were met by heavy smoke conditions and a fire smoldering on top of a work bench.

The blaze was quickly extinguished and ventilation efforts were started, to clear the garage of smoke.

Fire investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was due to improper disposal of smoking materials.

Damage to the structure and contents has been estimated at $25,000.

There were no injuries to report.

Four pieces of apparatus and thirteen firefighters were on scene.

Public Reminder
The Airdrie Fire Department reminds the public that all smoking materials must be disposed of properly. They should never be placed into containers of organic materials or thrown from windows of automobiles.
