April 4, 2021/ Structure Fire / AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Sunday, April 4, 2021 at 3:09 p.m., the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of structure fire in the Motel 6 located on Gateway Drive NE.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found the building’s fire alarm ringing and that all motel staff and guests had safety evacuated to the parking area.

On entry into the building, firefighters found the main level filled with light, grey smoke and water covering the floor.

It was determined that a small fire had occurred in a main level guest room which was quickly extinguished by the overhead sprinkler system.

Once confirmed that the fire was had been fully extinguished the sprinkler system was shut off and salvage and cleanup efforts started.

The Fire Prevention Bureau continues to investigate the cause of this fire and associated damage estimates.

There were no injuries to report. Five pieces of apparatus and thirteen firefighters were on scene.
