Dec 2, 2021 / Animal Ice Rescue / AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 8:19 a.m. the Airdrie Fire Department responded to a service call located in the 1100 block of Channelside Drive SW.

While responding, fire crews were advised a dog had fallen through the ice and was struggling to get out of the water.

On arrival, crews found a dog approximately 20 meters from the shoreline that had fallen through the ice, at times going under the water and unable to get out.

A rescuer using specialty equipment and an ice rescue suit was able to quickly remove the dog and reunite it with its owner who was on scene. The dog was taken into a home to warm up and appeared to be in good condition.

Public Safety Message: The Airdrie Fire Department reminds the public that all bodies of natural water should be avoided as ice conditions remain dangerous and unpredictable.
