Airdrie Transit launches mobile fare payment option

Jan. 12, 2022/ For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA - The City of Airdrie is excited to announce the launch of a new, mobile fare payment option when using Airdrie Transit. This new, mobile payment solution will remove a significant barrier for customers, offering a simple and cashless point of sale for one-time use and monthly passes.

Airdrie Transit’s mobile fare payment solution is possible through a partnership with HotSpot App, a Canadian company based out of Fredericton, NB. Transit customers will be able to download the HotSpot App for Apple or Android devices and purchase either one time use or monthly passes directly from their phones.

“I am happy that the new mobile fare option will make it more convenient for customers to access Transit services,” says Mayor Brown. “It is important that we continue to evolve to meet the needs of residents and this option will make Transit use more seamless for a large group of customers.”

“Our hope is that this new payment option will decrease our cash and prepaid media products by 30 per cent by the end of 2022. The benefits to this will help us become more sustainable with less paper and ink consumed to print out tickets and passes as well as less waste,” says Chris MacIsaac, Airdrie Transit team leader. “Most importantly, we are excited to offer a more convenient way of paying for Transit services and are hopeful this will make our residents lives a bit easier when it comes to Transit use."

To ensure payment options remain accessible for all customers, cash, paper tickets and monthly passes will continue to be available for purchase.

Information on downloading the HotSpot App can be found at airdrietransit.ca
